Acquired brain injury is an impairment of brain functioning that can be physically or psychologically confirmed. Common causes of acquired brain injury are brain lesions caused by traumas such as car accidents, falls, and sports injuries. Other brain lesions can be caused by internal problems such as tumors, aneurysms, or infections of the brain. Another cause of acquired brain injury is ingestion of toxic substances due to either alcohol or drug abuse or exposure to toxic chemicals.
